ELECTRICAL
Easy Patching of Holes Cut in Drywall

To facilitate the patching of access holes cut into drywall, cut them at a 45-degree angle using a keyhole saw. Angle the saw handle away from the hole's center. After your work in the wall is completed, spread some joint compound onto the edges of the cut-out and press the piece back into the hole. The 45-degree bevel edge prevents the piece from falling through. Then, smooth the edges with a spackling knife. I have found that in many instances, no taping is necessary and the piece stays in place even on ceilings. If you are on a job where spacklers are finishing the walls, just use some duct tape to hold the cut-out piece in place and the drywallers will take care of the rest.
